What is horary astrology?
Horary astrology, also called question astrology, is a classical technique in which a chart is cast for the exact moment a question is asked. It is not your date of birth that takes centre stage, but the moment of the question itself. Based on the positions of the planets and houses at that moment, you get a concrete, practical answer to one clear question.
Do I need my birth details or birth time?
No, and that is precisely the point of horary astrology. You do not need a full birth chart and you don't have to know your birth time. The chart is cast for the moment of your question, not for your birth. This means you can get a focused answer without a detailed birth profile having to be made first.
What questions can I ask?
Almost any concrete, well-defined question. Common themes are work and career, housing and property, love and relationships, pets, sports, travel and holidays, and purchases or collaborations. Examples: "Should I buy this house?", "Does this relationship have a future?" or "Will our cat come back home?". The sky is the limit, as long as the question is clear and concrete.
How do I best phrase my question?
Phrase your question as clearly, simply and directly as possible. The clearer the question, the sharper the answer. Limit yourself to one matter per question and formulate it concretely. Asking the same question over and over makes no sense: the chart answers the moment you ask the question sincerely and for the first time.
Can a horary question answer any question?
Horary astrology is at its strongest with concrete, well-defined questions that have a clear direction or choice. Very broad questions, such as "What does my whole life look like?", are less suited to this method — natal astrology is more appropriate for that. Not sure whether your question fits? What is the difference with natal astrology?
Birth or natal astrology starts from the exact time and place of your birth and gives insight into your general life path and personality over the longer term. Horary astrology starts from the moment of your question and gives a concrete, short-term answer to one specific matter — without needing your birth details.
Who casts my horary chart?
Your question is handled by Sonja of Astro Atalanta, a recognised classical horary astrologer (Anima Astrologiae NL), certified since 2022. She was trained by Oscar Hofman and still follows further training, among others with Oscar Hofman and John Frawley.
